The Cozy Coupe is All Grown up Feb 25, 2014
Most every kid had or knew someone who had a cozy coupe. It was great for those long road trips to the mailbox or around the backyard. The vehicle was lightweight, stylish and economical. It had everything you needed, like 4 wheels and a steering wheel and nothing that you didn’t need…like a motor…or windows. But that is beside the point! Every kid who got a Cozy Coupe was sure to be the talk of the neighborhood and now as an adult you can still be just as cool.
Thanks to Attitude Autos in Oxfordshire, England this beloved children’s toy is now for adults too! Brothers John and Geoff Bitmead with the help of their friend Nigel Douglas teamed up to convert a Daewoo Matiz into a road-worthy Cozy Coupe.
The transformation cost around $58,000, or approximately 1,160 toy Cozy Coupes. The guys converted the Matiz by chopping the top off and replacing it with a replica of the one found on the Little Tykes original. The wheelbase was shortened significantly and the original 0.8-liter inline-three was kept to help power this bad boy. The adult sized Cozy Coupe has 52 horses and can reach speeds over 60 MPH.
The only down side? The missing windshield! At 60+ MPH you may want to consider wearing a helmet.
