Initially produced as a model variation of the Suzuki Cultus in 1989, the Geo Metro quickly gained popularity in its own right. Three generations and four body styles of the Geo Metro were ultimately produced, as the model matured throughout its run. Between 1989 and 1997, the Geo Metro was sold as a Geo model, while from 1998 to 2001 it was marketed as a Chevrolet. Production of the Geo Metro ceased in 2001.
