A two-door model of the Nissan Sentra, the Nissan 200SX was introduced in the United States in 1995. Available in either the base model, SE, or a sportier SE-R model, all Nissan SX cars shared the front-end design, front-drive chassis and dashboard with the Nissan Sentra. The base and SE models also share the Sentra’s twin cam GA16DE four-cylinder engine. The SE-R model shared the same 2.0L SR20DE engine that was previously used for the Sentra SE-R. All early models of the Nissan 200SX have a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission and are fitted with dual airbags. In 1996 the Nissan 200SX SE and SE-R models received a minor facelift with body colored mirrors and door panels, followed by a major restyle in 1998, when all models had new headlights, white face gauges and a newly designed bumper.
