The Sidekick was a compact four-wheel drive SUV that was launched by Suzuki in the 1989 model year. The Sidekick offered a 1.6 liter 80 horsepower engine, which it boosted to a 95 horsepower engine in 1992. The upper end JLX and JX versions of the Sidekick offered on demand four-wheel drive, and a choice of either a soft or hard top. The Sidekick came with a five-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, and also offered an optional three-speed automatic transmission. Suzuki discontinued the Sidekick after the 1998 model year, replacing it with the Vitara.
