As a replacement for the Previa minivan in 1997, the Toyota Sienna features a more conventional front-wheel drive system. The original Sienna was much smaller than competing minivans and only offered front-wheel drive. The debuted Sienna had a 3.0 liter engine that was developed on an extended platform of the Camry. The first version was available in three types: CE, LE and XLE with the two latter being equipped with a second row of captain’s chairs. CE models had the second-row bench seat. All LE and XLE models had a roof rack and drive-side sliding door as standard features. All XLE models have leather seats and a wood trim package. At the time, the Sienna was rated as the best-in-class fuel economy van. In 2004, the second generation Toyota Sienna was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. The redesigned Sienna continued to provide the CE, LE and XLE versions, and in addition a new XLE Limited version, which was leather-trimmed. At this point, all Sienna models boasted a 3.3-liter V6 engine with 5-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota Sienna was once again redesigned in 2011 and unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The minivan is offered at five levels: Sienna Grade, LE, XLE, Limited and SE, which provides a revised body, 19 inch wheels, a firmer suspension, revised steering and clear tail lights.
